Sangee

Che and I were walking around Party Center trying to find everything for Mula’s fifth birthday.

“I think the Hello Kitty theme is really cute,” I told her.

“Yeah, me too. I have a few Hello Kitty pieces of jewelry,” she told me. I stopped pushing the buggy and just stood there with my mouth open looking at her.

“What? They’re cute!”

“I know, girl, I have some too!” I said, and we both laughed.

“Have you talked to Runner?” I asked. It had been about 2 weeks since the family reunion, and I hadn’t spoken to her.

“Yeah, I talked to her last week, and we text like every other day. I wish she would move back to Texas so she could be around more. I hate that she can’t come to Mula’s party,” Yoshi said.

“We should go to Miami to visit her,” I suggested.

“I can’t just leave my family,” Yoshi replied, but I could tell her mind was running.

“Bring them. And bring Jazzie so that Mula can have a friend,” I said hoping she would throw Cory in as well.

“Yeah, and I’ll ask Cory too, and maybe even Kamari so she—”

“Whoa, whoa, whoa! I can understand Cory and Jazzie but leave your best friend out. This is for the sisters,” I said praying she bought my performance.

“Yeah, you’re right. She’ll have to sit this one out.”

“So what does Cory do?” I asked, playing stupid.

“What do you mean?” she asked playing stupid right along with me.

“Job-wise,” I stated.

“He has a barbershop,” she answered. I had to admit Yoshi was well trained in how to answer.

We got everything we needed for the party, and I promised to come over on Saturday morning to help her decorate for the party.

When I got in the car I called Runner.

“Hello,” she answered.

“Hey, Runner, it’s Sangee. How have you been?”

“Oh, hi, Sangee. I’m good. What about you?”

“The same. I was talking to your sister, and we were wondering if we could come up to Miami to visit. I mean, we would stay at a hotel but we wanna come when it’s convenient for you,” I informed her.

“Anytime really,” she answered sounding excited. “I work at a club, but I’m cool with the owner so I can take off anytime,” she giggled.

“You’re a stripper?” I asked ready to judge.

“No, Sangee, damn! I’m a bartender. Who all is coming?” she wanted to know.

“Me, Yoshi, Mula, Money, Jazzie, and Cory.”

“Sounds fun!”

“So will we meet Mecca?” I asked.

“What do you know about him?” she got defensive.

“Calm down. Yoshi mentioned that you were on the phone with him grinning like a Cheshire cat!”

She laughed, then answered, “Yeah, y’all will meet him and my best friend Gia.”

“Okay, so I’ll get with Yoshi this weekend, and we’ll come up with some dates.”

We said our good-byes, and then ended the call. I headed to the nail shop to get everything touched up for this weekend. I could not wait to see Cory. We had been meeting and hooking up at random places for the past 2 weeks. We
